A couple of years ago, I bought the 40gb PS3. I had no problems with it until one day I was playing Fallout 3: Game of the Year edition and it suddenly froze. I restarted the console and I noticed that the game didn't appear on the game menu. I ejected the disc and I looked at it and it seemed to have a coat of moist, like the lens overheated or something. I tried putting it back on but it didn't work. I thought it was the game and put in other games and the same problem kept ocurring. I did some research and decided to buy this item. When delivered, I opened the PS3 and the blu ray drive and replaced the lens and it solved my problem. If you're having this nightmare, this is the way to go.

The lens was actually very easy to install and it works just as good as the old one if not better...keep one thing in mind though when changing the lens make sure you have already ejected the disc from the console.

The Blue Ray drive on my PS3 failed after 2 years. This was a perfect replacement. Disassembling the PS3 was relatively simple, but there is a small flat ribbon cable that must be disconnected and the connector can break easily if not careful. Also - look at the actual unit you are removing from your PS3 first - even though the suggested unit for me was a single eyed laser (based on the PS3 mfg date and model number), my PS3 had the 2 eyed laser in it so that's what I bought to replace it. Has worked flawlessly since I purchased and we watch movies several times a week.
