I was looking for a simple presentation "clicker" that didn't cost too much since I was purchasing it out of my own pocket to use both at work, at church and at home. After going through lots of reviews and looking at many similar products, I thought this one suited my purposes just fine. Once it came, it was a breeze - pretty much plug and play! I liked it so much, I decided to purchase a second one to give as a gift to a teacher and hopefully she'll find it as easy to use as I do. I would recommend this smart-pointer to anyone.

I got the Smart-Pointer not for the usual mission of doing presentations but because I wanted to be able to remote control a PC that was hooked to a TV, so as to navigate to online video content for direct viewing. It's inconvenient to navigate from the laptop directly because it has to be plugged into the TV as a display and so it can't be reached from the normal viewing positions. With Smart-Pointer I was able to install an RF-linked and small/convenient device that let me move the cursor and click from anywhere in a room.
I looked at using an RF mouse or trackball, but none of them had the range needed, and they were also a bit ugly to sit on a table in a rec room. The Smart-Pointer is a nice little gadget that doesn't look like a piece of left-over computer gear.
The installation and setup process was very easy and trouble-free. The only thing I'd like would be a menu function to change how some of the features worked--the distance that a click on the arrow key moves the cursor, for example.

This pointer is built pretty solidly for being plastic. Laser works fine. Range is outstanding. However, the device doesn't properly wake up (in combination with the generic Windows mouse driver) after standy resume. I spoke with Microsoft and tried every registry hack under the sun. Under Windows Vista and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit), you must unplug and then re-plug the USB receiver for the unit to be usable after a standy resume. I am using this with an HTPC that I keep powered down during the day. Unfortunately, I have to reach around the back of the HTPC every time I resume.
I've recently purchased another product (the Keyspan PR-US2) and it works perfectly after a standby resume. If you're using this with a laptop, no sweat. For folks like me who intend to use it with a power-sensitive PC setup, buyer beware!

Everything is great about this product except the fact that using mouse and keyboard at the same time is not possible.. you need to use a switch (like on/off) switch to go to each mode.
